MOVIES, MONEY, MAYHEM FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER

Q: Does the player who plays "UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES" Action Card also take on the $30M in debt?

A: No, it only affects other players, not the person who played the negative Action Card.

Q:
Can I stack green 'in-theater' Action Cards onto a movie that's in red 'in-production' phase of the movie set?

A: Yes, you can pre-emptively stack green cards onto a movie that is in the red phase. These cards will not take effect until the movie moves into the green 'in-theaters' phase (marked by the movie set making money).

Q: Can I use the Action Card, "STUDIO SABOTAGE" on my own movie set? And why would I do that?

A: Yes, you can use the "STUDIO SABOTAGE" card on your own set if your movie set is still within the red 'in-production' phase (marked by movie set being complete but not yet making money). Players may want to do this to get rid of all the green Action Cards that affect the returns of the movie-set. The sabotaged player will still need to rearrange their movie to complete it in order to move back into the red 'in-production' phase.

Clarification: You may not use STUDIO SABOTAGE if the movie is already making money. So if the green Action Cards negatively affecting the movie returns are applied once the movie is 'in-theaters', the movie can no longer be split up.

Q: Can I protect my movie set from a "STUDIO SABOTAGE" card by my Director's Special Ability that protects his Crew Cards?

A: No, the Director's Special Ability pertains to protecting his Crew Cards from stealing, swapping, or being put out of play ("YOU'RE FIRED!" card). The "STUDIO SABOTAGE" card only moves a Crew Card away from the movie set and is still within the player's field for use. Therefore, STUDIO SABOTAGE can still be used against this Director.

Q: How do I use the "SCRATCH THAT, REVERSE IT!" card?

A: This may be best explained by example. If someone tries to trade Crew Cards with the Action Card "CINEMA SWAP", their action is immediately nulled, and you may use the same action back on them, so you will be able to swap a Crew Card with them on your choosing. If you choose not to enact this effect and want to use it similarly to a "NOPE!" Action Card, you may also choose to do so. If you take a Director with a special ability, you enact the ability at this time, but it will still return to the original player's turn after that. The best way to imagine the "SCRATCH THAT, REVERSE IT!" card is as if instead of the person playing the other Action Card, you get to use it instead. You may only use it on the player that played the Action. You may not redirect the Action onto another player.

Q: How often can I use Director's Abilities?

A: Once per game, and only when you first put the Director down on your field. The Director's abilities that protect Crew Cards can be used continuously.

Q: I forgot to use my Director's Special Ability when I first put it on the field. Can I still use it later on in the game?

A: According to official rules, no, you may not. If your friends are kind enough to let you, house rules :)

Q: Why do some Crew Cards cost so much and others cost so little?

A: In the spirit of trying to keep accurate to how much movies might cost these days, some Crew Cards that are essentially huge teams like "MARKETING" and "PRODUCTION" are the cost of the entire teams. Just be careful to protect these guys from being stolen or put out of play!

Q: If someone stole my Crew Card, they should take the debt with them too, right? It only makes sense!

A: Unfortunately not. You keep the debt :(

Q: What if my hand is terrible and I haven't been able to get any good cards?

A: There are 2 options. First option is to take on $50M in debt to draw 2 more cards. Second option, you can take $50M in debt and discard all cards in your hand and draw 5 new cards. Either action counts as 1 move. Some people will prefer the 1st option if that other cards in their hand they want to play later and some people will prefer the 2nd option if none of the cards in their hand is helpful.
